New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) A parliamentary committee has been set up on to go into human trafficking issue involving MPs.
The decision was taken at an all party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to discuss the arrest of suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara and questioning of some MPs allegedly isusing their privileges and indulging in human trafficking.
Sources said leaders were unanimous that Parliament should send the right message to its members that any misuse of powers that brought disgrace to the honour and dignity of Parliament would not be tolerated.
BJP, which had immediately suspended Mr Katara after his arrest in the case, was of the view that that there should be one yardstick to deal with all such criminal and corruption cases whether these should be tried by Parliament or court. These should also include cases against ministers facing charges.
