Scorching heat returns to Delhi, mercury rises to 42.7 Degree C

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) After a cool weather for the last over a week, scorching heat conditions returned to torment Delhiites today as the mercury shot up to 42.7 degree Celsius, the highest for the month.

After a pleasant weather for the whole of last week, Delhiites were left sweating under hot and sultry conditions as the maximum temperature shot up from 38.5 degree C yesterday to 42.7 degree C today, two degree above normal.

For the first time in May, scorching heat forced people of Delhi to remain ensconced in the comfort of their homes or airconditioned offices.

Today's rise in temperature comes after pleasant weather since the beginning of May, which has seen the cooling down of the capital by a series of thunderstorms and showers under the influence of an upper air circulation.

Heavy showers and a squall on Friday night cooled down the Capital by bringing the mercury down by 14 Degrees Celsius.

On subsequent days too the maximum temperature remained at 38 degrees C, two degrees below normal.

The rise in mercury notwithstanding, the coming days could witness some relief from heat with the weathermen predicting fresh duststorms or thunderstorms accompanied by thundersqualls in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India during the next three days under the influence of a fresh upper air circulation.

The weather office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the possibility of duststorms or thunderstorms accompanied by squalls in some areas.

They have also forecast a drop in maximum temperature to 40 Degree C tomorrow and 36 degrees C on Friday.
