Reliance Industries strikes new gas reservoirs

New Delhi, May 15: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) today said it has made two new discoveries, one in the deep waters of East Coast (KG D6)and another in the shallow waters of West Coast of India (GS01).

Opening up new areas in the deeper stratigraphic levels in the block, RIL's fiftieth exploratory is located at a water depth of 2,010 metres, which is the deepest location to be drilled till date.

According to a statement by RIL, the well encountered two gas-bearing zones and the data obtained from logging and Modular Dynamic Testing (MDT) confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the Mio-Pliocene intervals.

RIL has notified the Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH) and concerned authorities of the new discovery, namely Dhirubhai 34.

In the West Coast off Gujarat-Saurashtra offshore, RIL has announced the discovery in the well GS01 B1 in block GS-OSN-2000/1.

Drilled at a water depth of 78 metres and to a total depth of 2,282 metres, DST carried out by RIL revealed 18.6 million standard cubic feet of gas with 415 barrels of condensate per day through 56/64" choke with a flowing tubing pressure of 1346 psi.

RIL has notified the DGH and concerned authorities of the new discovery namely Dhirubhai 33.

According to RIL, the commerciality of the above discoveries is currently under evaluation.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel said in Parliament that the Management Committee and the DGH have approved the revised development plan of KG D6 based upon establishment of additional gas reserves and enhanced gas production.

Capital investment will be approved each year by Management Committee under the annual work programme and budget on realistic basis, he said.
