Parrikar writes to PM for Politician-land mafia nexus probe
Panaji, May 15 (UNI) BJP opposition leader Manohar Parrikar today sought a high-level probe into alleged ''politician-foreign land Mafia nexus'' in Goa which, if unchecked nothing would remain in the island state for sale in the near future.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the former Chief Minister said at least five senior Congress politicians had been involved in the racket with links to Singapore, Dubai and some European countries.
He sought a joint probe by the CBI, Directorate of Enforcement and if necessary Interpol to unearth the racket before the Mafia dons took over Goa and the state became their fiefdom.
He recalled the report of the National Security Council alerting the Union Home Ministry of how certain foreign agents with criminal links were trying to grab land in Goa even as the Centre had restricted FDI in real estate.
Already, lakhs of square metres of land had been converted and sold out and the nexus could be verified with the entries in respective passports. These very politicians had virtually been ''dying to contest the elections now,'' he said.
''I seek serious inquiry in the interest of Goa, not for politics.
The BJP would investigate into the racket if it comes back to power and enact a legislation restricting sale of huge landed properties, particularly agriculture land without clearance of the government,'' he stated.
This could be checked by verifying the zooming sale of registration papers. While some are acting as dons, others are like brokers in the racket, Mr Parrikar added.
