Opportunists, renegades have ganged-up against PDP: Mehbooba

Srinagar, May 15 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti today said her party has emerged as a strong movement with a real agenda for the resolution of political and economic problems of Jammu and Kashmir and its people.

''The party's pro-people agenda has started attracting people in large numbers to the PDP fold and it is emerging as the sole and genuine voice of the masses across the state,'' she said.

Addressing a convention of party workers in Badgam district, Ms Mufti said the positive transformation that has taken place in the sub-continent toward the Kashmir issue was the outcome of the efforts of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

While in and outside the power, he continued to work on a bigger canvass creating conditions feasible for the peaceful resolution of the contentious Kashmir issue, she added.

The PDP president said her party never indulged in political brinkmanship and provided a level playing field to all the voices to make the political process all inclusive.

These far-sighted policies of the PDP leadership have started paying dividends by creating a new refreshing and reconciliatory mood for the dignified peace and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, she added.

''I strongly believe that the era of darkness is nearing an end and a new dawn is awaiting all of us,'' Ms Mufti said.

The PDP chief said various elements, in different garbs, among the mainstream parties running their political and commercial establishments on the Kashmir issue have started feeling insecure with the imminent resolution of the problem.

All these elements, including exploiters, sycophants, sponsored elements, opportunists and renegades have now ganged-up against the PDP as they feel the party was pushing the Kashmir issue toward the ultimate resolution, threatening their very existence, she added.
