Haryana gives subsidy on Mushroom cultivation

Chandigarh, May 15 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a new scheme for promoting Mushroom cultivation in four districts of the state and a sum of Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked to provide subsidy under the scheme during the current financial year.

A 50 per cent subsidy would be given up to 1000 trays per beneficiary, a spokesman for the Horticulture Department said today.

Four districts in which the scheme would be implemented were Kaithal, Jind, Rewari and Mohindergarh.

These districts were not being covered under National Horticulture Mission to promote Mushroom cultivation.

The spokesman said the total production of Mushroom during the last financial year was 6,663 tonnes and had exceeded the target of 6,500 tonnes fixed for the year.

He said that the new scheme had been prepared with an objective to adopt the cultivation of Mushroom on scientific lines and introduce new disease free cultivation of mushroom.

The scheme also envisages providing self-employment to small and marginal farmers, landless and unemployment graduates to improve their socio-economic status and to promote ancillary industry like processing and packaging industry.

The scheme also aimed at providing protein foods to overcome deficiency in the masses of the state which was mostly vegetarian, he added.

The spokesman said that the state was a leading producer of mushroom in the country, growing button mushrooms during the winter season and white milky mushrooms oyster during the summer season.
