Bhopal, May 14 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress has set a target to train around 1.6 lakh partymen in view of state assembly elections slated to take place next year.

State Congress President Subhash Yadav told reporters here today that two-day block-level workshops would be held at 487 blocks from May 16 to June 30. A minimum of two and a maximum of five people would trained for every polling centre.

Later, party convention of trained personnel would be organised in every district from July. A convention of trained Congressmen from all over the state would be held in August.

He said the training workshops could be seen as pre-poll preparation for 2008 assembly elections. Senior leaders, including Arjun Singh, Oscar Fernandes, Ahmed Patel and Digvijay Singh had been invited to address the workshops.

Mr Yadav said topics such as development of leadership ability, media management, false propaganda by other parties, role of party workers during communal disturbance, failures of the BJP-ruled state government, election process and the importance of the Election Commission and other important topics would be taken up.

He claimed that party workers were enthusiastic regarding the workshops. The procedure for selecting active members in most districts had begun and would be complete by May 25.

The state Congress President alleged that law and order situation was in bad shape. He said attempt was made to crush an agitation led by the Congress to protest drinking water crisis in Indore.

He said the party would submit a memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar regarding law and order and other situations tomorrow.
