Rane renominated from Poriem, Karl Vaz from Mormugao

Panaji, May 14 (UNI) The Central Election Committee of the Congress today renominated Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane to contest from Poriem constituency in North Goa for the June 2 assembly elections.

Mr Rane is contesting from Poriem constituency, considered to be his citadel, for the seventh time since 1972. He has also the chief minister five times, the only one to hold the distinction.

The party is yet to decide the fate of his son and GPCC general secretary Viswajit Rane, who had sought ticket from Valpoi segment.

The sitting MLA Karl Vaz, however, has been renominated from Mormugao constituency.

In a last minute change, the Congress nominated social worker and scheduled tribe candidate Govind Gawade in place of Ramachandra Mule from Madkai segment.

The Congress has announced the names of 33 candidates so far, as against 34 it wanted to field, leaving six seats to its coalition partner, the NCP.
