M Revu tops Civil Services Exam results, 2 women in top 10

New delhi, May 14 (UNI) Mutyalaraju Revu, an IPS probationer from Andhra Pradesh, has topped the Civil Services Examinations-2006, while women constitute 21 per cent of the 474 successful candidates with two of them--Anindita Mitra and Juhi Mukherjee--figuring among the first ten.

Amit Saini and Alok Tiwari have been placed second and third respectively. While Saini hails from Chandigarh, Tiwari is a native of Allahabad.

According to the results released by the UPSC, a total of 474 candidates-- 214 in the general category, 144 Other Backward Classes, 80 Scheduled Castes and 33 Scheduled Tribes--have been recommended for appointment for IAS, IFS, IPS and Central Services Group 'A' and 'B'. As many as 18 physically challenged candidates also made it to the various services.

Out of the 474 selected candidates, 373 are males and 101 females.

Thus females constituted 21 per cent of the winning candidates.

Topper Revu has a post-graduate degree from Bangalore and belongs to Other Backward Classes.

Out of top 20 candidates, 18 candidates took the examination in English and the remaining two in Hindi.

Approximately 400,000 candidates applied for the examination and half of them appeared.

Official sources said that there are 89 vacancies in the IAS (45 General, 24 OBCs, 13 SCs and 7 STs), 20 for Indian Foreign Service ( 10 GEneral, 5 OBCs and 5 SCs) and 103 for the Indian Police Service (51 General, 28 OBCs, 16 SCs and 8 SCs).

In Central Services Group 'A,' there are 294 vacancies--152 in General category, 80 OBcs, 43 SCs and 19 STs.

In Central Services Group 'B,' 27 vancies are to be filled. This comprises 15 General, 7 OBCs, 3 SCs and 2 STs.
