LS adjourned after furore over construction of dam
New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day today after witnessing two adjournments earlier following an uproar over construction of the dam at Babli on Godavari river by the Maharashtra Government.
Soon after the House reassembled at 1400 hrs, TDP members, led by Mr Yerran Naidu, created noisy scenes protesting against the construction of the dam by Maharashtra Government for causing a water shortage in Andhra Pradesh.
This was countered by MPs from Maharashtra, including Chandra Kant Khere(SS) and Ramdas Athawale(Ind), who favoured the construction of the dam at Babli on the river Godavari.
The MPs from Maharashtra trooped into the well of the House and shouted slogans even as Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal carried on with the business of the House allowing three Bills to be passed amid the pandemonium.
The Bills that were passed were Constitution(Scheduled Castes)Order (Amendment)Bill 2006(Amendment of the Schedule), Securities Contracts(Regulation)Amendment Bill 2006 and National Institute of (Technology Bill)2007.
