Aurangabad, May 14 (UNI) A deer gave birth to two calves in the Siddharth Garden and Zoo here, bringing cheers on the faces of the Zoo officials, who received flak from the government recently over the deaths of 15 animals, particularly black bucks, there.

''The deer and the calves are normal. It is after a gap of three years that a deer has given birth in the zoo, and the Zoo'' officials and employees were very anxious after the infamous incident leading to the mysterious deaths of 15 animals in the zoo, Zoo in-charge J M Bhadke told UNI.

Speaking about the measures taken by the zoo authorities, he said the black bucks are now being kept in a large enclosure. The cage is covered with a polythene to protext them from direct sunlight.

As per the rule of the Central Zoo Authority, only 25 black bucks are allowed to be kept in a zoo. However their number had gone up to 50, for the past few years, Mr Bhadke added.
