Cong Govt rededicates to achieve ''Indiramma Raj'' in AP

Hyderabad, May 14 (UNI) Re-dedicating himself to realising ''Indiramma Raj'' in Andhra Pradesh by adopting her 20-point programme, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced party monitoring committees at the grassroots level for ensuring proper implementation of government programmes.

Putting the onus of ensuring the Congress' victory in the 2009 general elections on the party workers, he urged them at the Pradesh Congress Committee Plenum to ensure the benefits of various welfare and developmental schemes reached the common man.

Noting the party had a challenging task of overcoming the ''anti-incumbency factor'' in the next elections, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh, taking a cue from West Bengal where the Left-front was able to overcome the anti-incumbency factor successfully for more than 30 years, said more meetings should be held by the party at the grassroots level involving all sections of partymen in decision-making.

Reminding the partymen they would have to encounter anti-incumbency in the 2009 polls, Mr Singh said ''there will be some anti-incumbency against the Chief Minister, ministers, MPs, MLAs.

''The only way to counter this is, to remain united. On no account we should try to settle scores with ourselves. We should concentrate on settling scores only with our political rivals.'' Mr Singh asked the Pradesh Congress to chalk out a well-documented calender of events, including training camps for party workers and a mass contact programme to bridge any communication gap with the people.

The Chief Minister also announced a rigorous training for five to ten party workers at the polling booth level for election management and popularising the government's policies and programmes.

Schemes for betterment of SCs/STs, youth, minorities, women, programme for checking price rise, strengthening local bodies, improving agriculture, irrigation and industry formed part of the 20-point programme formulated by the party to achieve ''Indiramma Raj.'' UNI
