CM inaugurates CIPA

Shillong, May 14 (UNI) Police constables in Meghalaya would no longer need pen and paper to register FIRs, general diaries and complaints here after the implementation of Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA).

The Integrated Police Application is intended to link 11502 police stations across the country. These police stations would also be linked with the Union Home Ministry and state police headquarters through the National Informatic Centre.

''The state police department can accelerate the investigation of crime and criminal records and information can be obtained from any station with just a click on computer,'' Chief Minister D D Lapang said while inaugurating the CIPA scheme at Sadar Police station today.

Mr Lapang said the Union government was advancing the CIPA programme in all the police stations in the country and about 10 per cent of the police stations had already been computerised in the first phase while about 30 per cent would be carried out during the second stage.

He said at the first stage, seven police stations within the town had been covered under this programme and rest would be done in the second stage.

Lauding the role played by the state police department, the Chief Minister said it needed more to restore the confidence of people and narrow down the gap between the public and police.
