15th UP Assembly to meet on May 17; Governor address on May 21

Lucknow, May 14 (UNI)The 15th Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly will meet on May 17, while Governor T V Rajeswar will address the joint session on May 21.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet meeting here this evening, chaired by chief minister Mayawati.

The new Speaker of the assembly would be elected on May 18.

Briefing mediapersons, state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said the new MLAs would be administered oath on May 17 and 18, while the new Speaker will be elected on May 18.

The first sitting of the house would be on May 21 with the address of the Governor to the joint houses, he said.

Mr Singh said the duration of the session will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee of the house.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party legislature party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has been notified as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly.

The assembly secretriat has also sent a panel of 15 members for the pro-tem speaker, with ten time member Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav being the senior most followed by nine time member Ramsevek Dhobi and eight time member Pramod Tiwari.
