Tune education to suit global demand: Azad
Jammu, May 13 (UNI) Underlining the importance of keeping pace with present globalization, liberalization and fierce competition in the field of education, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has lauded Jammu University for functioning in tune with present day educational requirements.
Addressing the 12th convocation of University of Jammu here today, Mr Azad, who is also pro-chancellor of the University, said that Jammu University has distinction of being the country's first university to attain ISO 9001: 2000 certification.
He said the university has become a nodal center for dissemination of information and provides all round assistance to 123 affiliated colleges and has taken a number of initiatives by starting new academic programs in post-graduation and research with market linkages and aims at increasing employability of the students.
New campuses have been set up in Bhaderwah, Kathua and Udhampur with sub-centers at Reasi, Doda, Patnitop, Ramnagar and Poonch to increase the out-reach of the university, he added.
''While Jammu University is keeping pace with the modern education and technologies at the same time due care is being taken to educate and teach students about our legends, and it is in this context that two prestigious chairs in the name of maharaja gulab singh and general zorawar singh have been established in the discipline of History and Center for Strategic and Regional Studies respectively,'' he said.
The university, he maintained, has been continuously up dating and up-scaling its activities and functioning to adjust to the new developments in the civil society such as networking with optical fiber through v-sat, internet connections in all the teaching departments, central internet facility, counseling and communication and computerization of the examination wing.
