Agartala, May 13 (UNI) Tripura is all set to launch outpost education through Edusat network in 50 stations across the state.

Talking to UNI here today, state Education Minister Keshab Majumder said the Northeast Space Application Centre(NESAC) was implementing the project in Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh in the first phase using the services of EDUSAT, a satellite dedicated to education.

''But we are the first to install satellite education in an extensive way to enhance the skill of both teachers and students even in the remotest part of the state. We expect it to start operation soon,'' he added.

According to the NESAC, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh each would get 20 and Mizoram would get 31 satellite education stations, while Tripura had already got 50 stations in the first phase itself.

The project would cover government-run schools and subsequently private schools in the region.

The EDUSAT service would be available to the remaining states - Asom, Manipur, Meghalaya and Sikkim by this year.

The NESAC was coordinating with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the launch of the project.

There would be specially qualified teachers at the uplink station or the hub and the lessons taught would reach thousands of students in the remote centres through satellite signals.

The new venture was expected to minimise the dropout rate among school students in the region, besides helping teachers enhance their knowledge base, the officials added.
