Punjab boys and Chattisgarh girls basket titles

Chandigarh, May 13 (UNI) Punjab boys and Chattisgarh girls won the titles in the 34 th Sub-Junior National Basketball Champinship at Kirpal Sagar Academy at Rahon in Nawanshahr District on Sunday.

Punjab boys defeated Chattisgarh by 55-19 in the final while Chattisgarh prevailed over Uttar Pradesh by 71-30 in the girls final.

Chattisgarh and Punjab boys matched evenly in the first quarter.

However, Punjab led 9-7 at the end of first quarter. In the second quarter, the Punjab boys took full advantage of out-number (playing with five players against three of Chattisgarh) to consolidate their lead (30-7). The third quarter saw Punjab leading by 43-14. In the fourth and last quarter, Punjab netted 12 points against five by Chattisgarh to emerge winners by 55-19 points.

Earlier, Chattisgarh girls defeated Uttar Pradesh by 71-30 in the final. For winners Sangeeta and Swaranjeet were the main scorers with 16 and 14 points respectively. Bhavana (10) and Varsha (8) were the outstanding players of Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana defeated Maharashtra by 52-49 points to determine the third and fourth positions in the girls section.

Rajasthan boys finished third as they defeated Madhya Pradesh by 46-17 points. Apourav (21) and Darshan (18) were the principal scorers for Rajasthan. For MP, P Sanju (7) and Sidiqui (7) reduced the margin for MP.
