BJD formulate strategies to strengthen base in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, May 13 (UNI) Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today decided to orgnise district and state level conventions and a membership drive to strengthen its base in the state.
Briefing reporters after the two-day district office bearer meeting, State Energy Minister S N Patra said they would like to rope in 30 lakh primary members by June which should reach 40 lakh by January 2008.
Mr Para said two major conventions would be held on May 19/20 in Bhubaneswar to strengthen the base in Orissa. While the May 19 convention would be attended by all the winning and defeated Zilla Parishad members, party supporters holding the chairman and vice- chairman post in all the 314 blocks would attend the May 20 convention.
A week later, Mr Patra said, the BJD would organise districts level conventions of both the elected and defeated candidates in the Panchayat elections right from the sarpanches to panchayat samittee members and ward members.
The Minister said all the 30 districts for that purpose has been divided into eight zones and the first meeting comprising the elected and defeated candidates in the Panchayat elections in Ganjam and Gajpati districts would be held in Berhampur on May 27 next.
After that the meeting of other zones would be held to be addressed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior leaders of the party, Mr.Patra said.
