UP electorate turns down ''turncoats''
Lucknow, May 12 (UNI) The ''turncoats'', who played a vital role in the formation of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in 2003, have largely been rejected by the Uttar Pradesh electorate.
Leader of the Loktantrik Bahujan Dal (LBD), the splinter BSP group that supported the Mulayam government during its formation and later merged with the ruling Samajwadi Party, Rajendra Singh Rana lost the election from Deoband (Saharanpur district).
Nawab Kazim Ali, who had joined SP after winning as a Congress candidate from Suartanda, lost his seat.
Ata-ur-rehman, who had won the assembly bypoll on a BSP ticket after the death of sitting SP MLA from Bahedi (Bareilly) Masood Ahmad and later joined SP, also faced defeat.
The list of ''turncoats'' facing humiliation in the hustings include Kalyan Singh Dohre (Kannauj), Virendra Singh Bundela (Lalitpur), Umakiran (Charthawal), Yogesh Pratap Singh (Shohratgarh), Mahesh Pratap Singh (Colonelganj), Virendra Singh (Chiraigaon), Vimal Krishna Agarwal (Badaun), Qutub-ud-din (Sheohara), Jung Bahadur (Gauriganj) and Matesh Chandra Sonkar (Sirathu).
Former BJP leaders, who fought the elections to the 15th UP Assembly on ruling SP tickets -- Dayashankar Verma (Konch), Kovid Kumar Singh (Nigohi) and Mahendra Singh Yadav (Bulandshahr)-- were also rejected by the voters.
