Over 2500 likely to participate in Military World Games Run

Chandigarh, May 12 (UNI) Over 2500 participants were expected to take part in the Run being conducted here as a precursor to the 4th Military World Games 2007 scheduled to be held at Hyderabad later this year.

To be held in three categories, the ceremonial 1.5-km run would be flagged off by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Gen (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues. The other two Runs - the 5-Km run for school children and NCC Cadets and the 10-Km run for professional runners (open category) - being simultaneously organised on the same day would be flagged off by the Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Punjab Co-operation and Defence Services Welfare Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh.

Morning walkers at the Sukhna lake were treated to a visual delight this morning as they witnessed the Games mascot Bison slithering down from a hovering IAF Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) onto a especially made platform in the lake during a rehearsal that was held today.

This was followed by a dry run of the fly past by army aviation's Cheetah helicopters that flew majestically over the lake. Later, the nine skydivers of the Para brigade from Agra who jumped from a Dornier aircraft were cheered by the onlookers as they landed on the ground in a perfect finish.
