MCD to set up memorial in memory of Bose and Rani Laxmibai: Mayor

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) The MCD will set up memorials in memory of Netaji Subhash Chander Bose, founder of the Azad Hind Fauj and Rani Laxmibai within two years, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra today said.

Making this announcement after according reception to participants of the Bhartiya Swatantra Sangram Smriti Yatra, organised by All India Ex Servicemen Council to mark the 150th anniversary of the first war of Indian Independence, Ms Mehra said all the episodes, whether small or big, of India's Independence struggle and the lives and teachings of martyrs should be brought in the literature books so that citizens could take lessons from them.

She directed that portraits of martyrs of India's freedom struggle, alongwith their brief life sketch, be displayed in all the municipal primary schools so that children from their very childhood get a sense of patriotism.

She appealed to citizens to jointly fight against terrorism and corruption for all-round development of India.

The Yatra by participants of the Bhartiya Swatantra Sangram Smriti Yatra, which began on April 7 from Moirang (Manipur), reached Delhi today after passing through Meerut.

The yatra started from Moirang since the Azad Hind Fauj under the leadership of Netaji Subjash Chander Bose defeated the British army and unfurled the Indian flag on April 14, 1857.

Present on the occasion were Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya, Chairman of the Standing committee Vijender Gupta and other Municipal Councillors.

Relating their experience of this yatra, the participants said the yatra started from Moirang and covered nearly 8500 mile and passed through various villages and towns including Meerut.

During the yatra, lakhs of people came in contact with them and the message of patriotism was propogated in their hearts, especially in the youth. This yatra proved to be a huge success.
