JD(S)-BJP coalition has failed to perform in Karnataka: Congress

Bangalore, May 12 (UNI) The JD(S)-BJP coalition government in Karnataka has totally failed to address the problems of the people, Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged here today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said this was evident in view of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy complaining against top officials for not performing day in and day out.

"What happens if you appoint inept officials in the key posts.

The Chief Minister was to blame for all the mess as he had failed to make use of able officials while put useless people at the helm of affairs," he added.

He said Mr Kumaraswamy had lost the hold on the administration and failed to perform up to the people's expectations. "Nothing can be achieved by just sleeping in the villages," he said referring to the Chief Minister's frequent Village Stays where he spent the night in poor people's homes to 'feel the pulse of the people'.

He criticised the JD(S) for shamelessly siding with 'communal' BJP. "The JD(S) was actually strengthening the BJP at its own peril.

It is helping the coalition partner by fattening it with money and muscle power. JD(S) has become a part of the BJP," he accused.

Mr Kharge said the party was confident of retaining Ullal Assembly segment for which bypolls was slated for June two. "All sections of the society is willing to back Congress in this segment again. We will win and it will be a win of secular forces," he claimed.

He said on May 16 the State unit of the party would celebrate the centenary of freedom movement at Ankola in Uttara Kannada district in a grand fashion.

It was in Ankola that the peasants of Karnataka took a decision during 1930-34 on the lines of Salt Satyagraha and the Dandi March and launched a no-tax campaign on a political basis.

Party leaders like Digvijay Singh, Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes, Defence Minister A K Antony, Administrative Reforms Committee Chairman Veerappa Moily would participate in the function.
