Fired Pepsi employee sets himself ablaze in front of company factory

Sangrur, May 12 (UNI) A 30-year-old man fired by the Pepsi Foods plant in Channo recently under charges of dereliction of duty, today set himself ablaze in front of the main gate of the factory in this district, police sources said.

The security staff at the factory doused the flames and rushed Baljinder Singh, to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to Rajindra hospital in Patiala in a serious condition.

Baljinder, a resident of village Nadampur in this district had left the house in a huff after an altercation with other members of his family, sources said.

Early this morning, he reached the Pepsi plant, where he had worked for about five years, doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze, sources said.

The Police have registered a case and were investigating the matter, the sources added.
