UP: BSP MLAs to elect Mayawati as new leader

Lucknow, May 12: The process for administering oath to Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati as chief minister for the record fourth time in Uttar Pradesh will begin after the Election Commission notifies the formation of the 15th assembly this evening.

Meanwhile, the BSP legislature party is expected to meet here this afternoon to elect its new leader.

Informal meetings of the legislature have already started under the chairmanship of senior party general secretary Nasimuddin Siddiqui.

''Though the meeting would be a mere formality as Mayawati will be elected as the leader in the meeting,'' a senior BSP leader said.

UP chief electoral officer(CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi would personally carry the list of the winning candidates in the assembly polls to the Raj Bhawan and hand it to Governor T V Rajeswar.

'' We have fixed a deadline of 1900 hrs today to meet the Governor and hand over him the assembly results,'' said state additional CEO Devesh Chaturvedi here today.

After recieving the results from the EC, the Governor will notify the new 15th assembly.

The term of the present assembly will expire tomorrow midnight.

Mr Chaturvedi said the EC has received most of the results but still from several districts detailed polling data were yet to come.

'' We have only received detailed data from only 6 divisional commission and the rest are expected by this afternoon,'' he said.

After the notification of the new assembly, the Governor will invite Mayawati to form a government.

The new government is expected to take charge of the state within a day or two.
