Broaden ambit of agro-production:Sahay

Ranchi, May 12 (UNI) Expressing concern over low rate of development of agriculture in Jharkhand, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahay today advocated to promote poultry, horticulture and dairy as a part of traditional farming to check suicide attempts among the farmers Addressing a workshop organised on '' Possibility of Enhancing Sustainibility of Rural Poor through Food Processing '' Mr Sahay said the farmers in the country were having miserable life despite the announcement of relief by the Centre.

''Cases of suicide were not reported by the farmers, who have already adopted poultry, horticulture and dairy as a part of their traditional farming,'' Mr Sahay claimed.

Expressing concern over low rate of development in agriculture, Mr Sahay said, the Union government has called a meeting of National Development Council (NDC) to discuss various aspects of agricultural growth.

Mr Sahay said, the state had immense opportunity in the field of food processing besides industrial development.

Jharkhand's Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto said the state government was keen for rural development.

Earlier, Jharkhand's Industry Secretary S K Satpathi had said, the developmental process in Jharkhand was slow due to political turmoil but state government was making its all efforts for speedy development of industrial sector.
