Villager's widow allege police hand in encounter
Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, May 11 (UNI) The wife of a villager, who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter by police, has alleged that her husband was killed by police.
In her statement before inquiring officer Additional Superintendent of Police Ankit Kumar Garg, Madwi Mangu's widow Lakshmi claimed that her husband was killed by police.
She told reporters here that Mangu had gone to collect 'mahua' flowers when he was picked up by police along with other villagers.
He was later killed.
Eight tribals who went to the forest to collect 'Mahua' fruit on March 31 were taken away by the police suspecting them to be naxalite sympathisers.
A hue and cry was raised about the killing of seven people in fake encounters and missing of another and the government ordered an inquiry.
Their bodies were dug out from the forest between Santoshpur and Pojer villages and post mortem performed. A police inquiry was underway into the matter.
Villagers were angry over registering of case against unidentified police officials in this regard.
