New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The outcome of the UP assembly polls would not only be a decisive factor in the forthcoming Presidential elections but also in shaping of the larger political canvas of the country, Left parties said today.

The top leaders of the CPI and the CPI(M) said Ms Mayawati's successful experiment of the Dalit-Muslim-Brahmin alliance, which was earlier the base of the Congress, would also contribute to changing the politcial scenario.

Stitching an unassailable Dalit-Muslim-Brahmin alliance, Ms Mayawati led her BSP to an emphatic victory in UP, giving a body blow to both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to end years of political instability in the state.

CPI leaders A B Bardhan and Shamim Faizi observed that the UP electorate had opted for a stable government and they found the BSP as the alternative.

She had been successful in using the social chemistry that had earlier been the base of the Congress, Mr Bardhan, the veteran Communist and freedom fighter told UNI from Chennai. The BJP, he said, had been trounced and rejected by the voters due to its communal agenda." Despite its alliance with the JD( U) and the Apna Dal it failed to retain its old electoral base." Mr Faizi, editor of the party mouthpiece, New Age, said as the UP polls are bound to have its impact on the presidential electoral college, the secular parties in the state should welcome the results in the state and formation of the government by Ms Mayawati.

" The secular parties including the Congress and the Left should hold consultations for the coming elections in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi," the CPI leaders added.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M K Pandhe said Ms Mayawati's victory became possible as she gave as many as 87 tickets to the Brahmins and 67 to the Thakurs." This is why the BJP got nearly 40 seats less that its present strength of 88." Mr Pandhe, the senior Communist leader, said the SP suffered defeat because of the erosion of popular support base of the party due to several factors." Two of them contributed the most- namely criminal track record of many of its candidates and the bad law and order situation." The combination of the Dalit-Brahmin-Thakurs- Muslims was so deadly that the electoral arithmetic went in favour of the BSP, the CPI(M) leader added.
