Turban tying to donkey issue to come at Akal Takht
Patiala, May 11 (UNI) Akal Takht Sahib will take up the matter pertaining to alleged tying of turban to donkey by the members of Joint Action Committee at Punjabi University here as part of their ongoing agitation demanding removal of Vice Chancellor Swaran Singh Boparai.
Mr Jagbir Singh, personal assistant of Akal Takht chief Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti, said over phone that photographs and news clippings for turban tying to Donkey by some persons had been received by the Akal Takhat secretariat and the Chief Jathedar Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti has forwarded the matter to the joint meeting of five Sikh head priests to be held on May 15.
The JAC had organised a 'donkey march' by tying a turban on the head of a donkey on May 4, against Swarn Singh Boparai, the vice chancellor. The university had already written to the police regarding insult to the turban under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code but no action has been taken yet by Police.
The JAC, convenor Dr Manjit Singh, had already been suspended by Punjabi University for ''lowering the prestige of the University and hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community''.
