Punjab govt waives of stamp duty on urban properties
Chandigarh, May 11: The Punjab government has waived off stamp duty on deeds pertaining to transfer of urban residential properties by the owner during his life time to his legal heirs.
Disclosing this here today, Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said that this decision was a step forward towards fulfilling the promises made to the urbanities in the election manifesto of SAD-BJP alliance during the assembly elections in the state. This would minimise the family disputes over property especially after the death of owner and disputes, if any during his life time could be resolved with case.
The minster said that a notification in this regard has been issued and all sub registrars have started registering deeds according to this notification.
Mr Kohar also said that where mutation of urban property was to be sanctioned the same would be sanctioned by the revenue officer concerned after following the procedure prescribed for this purpose.
It would be mandatory for the revenue officer to ensure that relation of the transfer or with the person to whom the property was being transferred was fully described in the deed itself.
