N Ram appeals to journos to call off protest rally

Chennai, May 11 (UNI) English daily 'The Hindu' Editor-in-Chief N Ram today appealed to the media and working journalist organisations to call off the proposed protest rally planned for tomorrow in the city to condemn the attack on the Tamil daily Dinakaran office in Madurai on Wednesday, in view of the assurance given by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that justice will be done.

In a letter here, he said Mr Karunanidhi had given an assurance that he and his administration would never let down journalists and the media. He also assured that nobody involved in the murderous attacks would be spared.

Considering the fact that some of the goons involved in the attack have been arrested and the CBI was in the process of taking over the investigation, the protest rally should be called off to create a better atmosphere for investigation.
