Mercury rises to 40 Deg C, more thunderstorms likely in Delhi
New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The cool weather in Delhi brought about by a heavy thunderstorm and rain last night somewhat abated today with the mercury rising to 40 degrees Celsius.
After a light showers and thundersquall brought about tremendous coolness in the air in Delhi last night plummetting the maximum temperature by nearly five degrees, the Sun shone clear and bright today, leading to a rise in the maximum temperature from 39.7 degrees Celsius yesterday, to 40 degrees C today.
However, the maximum, at 40 degree C, still remained at normal level for this time of the year.
The coming days could see a return of coolness in the air with the weatherman forecasting likelihood of thundersqualls over Delhi and other parts of Northwest India like Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
The weekend or the beginning of the next week could see some showers in Delhi.
The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in the capital during the next 24 hours with the possibility of rain and thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas.
They have also forecast a drop in maximum temperature in Delhi to 39 degrees tomorrow.
The last week has witnessed Delhi experiencing normal or below normal temperatures due to frequent squalls or short burst of heavy showers under the influence of an upper air circulation.
