Srinagar, May 11 (UNI) The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has come down heavily on the Jammu and Kashmir government for its failure to trace a class XII student, who had gone missing in 1994 from Sopore area after being abducted by unidentified gunmen.

Saleem Ahmed War, a class 12 student from Warpora in Sopore area had gone missing in October 1994 after being whisked away by the unidentified gunmen.

The SHRC directed the state administration to grant an ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh and a government job to the next of his kin.

Despite an FIR in the Bandipora police station, police undertook no investigations into the missing report.

The SHRC pronounced the decision after hearing into the case following an application filed by the missing person's brother, Mohammad Muzaffar War. It also flayed police for not having discharged its professional duties.
