Govt. has not stalled order to grand atonomy to MMC: Minister

Mysore, May 11 (UNI) The Karnataka government has not stalled granting of autonomy to prestigious Mysore Medical College (MMC), Minister for Medical Education V S Acharya said today.

Speaking to newsmen here clarified that the Governor T N Chaturvedi had sought certain clarifications that were furnished by the government. An official from Medical Education Department had been deputed to MMC to complege the process of granting autonomous status.

Dr Acharya said that he would visit to the college regularly till the formalities were completed. "53 doctors have got promotions following the decision to grant autonomy to the college," he said.

He said three more medical colleges at Shimoga, Raichur and Bidar respectively, would begin functioning from this academic year as all necessary infrastrucal facilities had been completed. The Medical Council of India was expected to grant permission for all the three colleges shortly, he said.

Earlier the Minister along with District Incharge Minister G T Deve Gowda visited the K R hospital and inspected various departments. He assured the doctors and paramedical staff that government would initiate steps to provide better working conditions in the Hospital.

He said that there was no shortage of anti rabies vaccine in the state and about 50,000 vaccines were always kept ready. All the hospitals in the state would be supplied the vaccine following increased incidents of dogs bites reported from different places, he added.
