Female sex ratio improved in slum colony in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, May 11 (UNI) The female sex ratio among children in the age of one year has has shown a remarkable improvement in a slum colony in Chandigarh, according to a survey.
The survey, conducted by the Health Department of Chandigarh Administration in Colony No 5 to assess various basic parameters of uses of reproductive and child health services, has found that there are more females than males among the children aged one year.
The survey was conducted in 5,100 houses dwelled by 20,542 people, including 4,004 children in the age group of 6 years. It was found that there were 1044 females per 1000 males in the age group of one year.
However, there were only 957 females in the agegroup of 1-3 years and 855 females per 1000 males in the agegroup of 3-6 years.
In 2001, the sex ratio in the 0-6 years agegroup was 845 in the union territory.
Home Secretary Krishna Mohan said the Administration would also assess other colonies and sectors in a phased manner on these parameters.
