CPI(ML) rejects Kalam's advice on two-party system in India

Patna, May 11 (UNI) CPI(ML) General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya today rejected President A P J Abdul Kalam's suggestion about the introduction of two-party system in India.

Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Bhattacharya said it was not feasible in view of the country's vast population, besides complex social and political problems.

He added it was the personal opinion of Dr Kalam and he should not have mentioned it at the public function.

President Kalam had advised political parties to think over the introduction of two-party system in Parliament at a function in New Delhi yesterday to mark the 150th year of the 1857 uprising.

Mr Bhattacharya further said peasants throughout the country had actively participated in the Revolt of 1857. The CPI(ML) leader alleged that the UPA government was totally indifferent to the sufferings of the farmers, many of whom have committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states.

He alleged that thousands of acre of land was being acquired by the government for Special Economic Zones(SEZ) in the name of development and industrialistaion but no concrete policy for compensation to the farmers had been formulated.

Demanding immediate scrapping of SEZ, he alleged it was being created to benefit big industrial houses and capitalists of the country without caring for the interests or the sufferings of farmers whose contribution was vital for the growth of the Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
