Bhushan Steel signs MoU for two- million ton steel plant in Bengal
Kolkata, May 11 (UNI) Moving in West Bengal with a major venture, Bhushan Steel Limited (BSL) today singed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Government and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation(WBIDC) for setting up of a Rs.
8.8 crore integrated steel plant and cold rolled and galvanising plants.
The proposed two million ton steel plant, having a 1,000 MW captive power plant, will be set up at Salanpur in Bardhaman district. The cold rolled and galvanising plants for automobile grade steel will come up in North Twentyfour Parganas district and at Asansol in Bardhaman district respectively, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said after signing of the MoU.
The project requires a total of 90 acres of land which the state Government will identify. The land will be acquired through WBIDC.
Talking to reporters, BSL Managing Director Neeraj Singhal ruled out that the land acquisition process would face any difficulty as did the Tata Motors's small car project at Singur. " The land for the project is barren and there should be no question of opposing acquisition," he said.
The MD said the project would generate direct and indirect employment to more than 3,000 people. BSL would also provide rehabilitation package, including vocational training, self employment, education and halth care facilities to the affected people, he said.
