Army jawan arrested along with stolen pistol and grenade in Jammu

Jammu, May 11 (UNI) An Army jawan was arrested along with a pistol and a hand grenade, which he had allegedly stolen from his Rajasthan located infantry unit, at Arnia border area of Jammu and Kashmir, police today said.

Sepoy Intu Kumar, son of Sagar Chand of Jinder Melu village, was arrested along with a pistol, 33 rounds of .9mm ammunition and a hand grenade at Biaspur Parlah village of Arnia last night, Dy SP (R S Pura) Aftab Sheikh told UNI.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Sepoy Intu Kumar of 3 PUNJAB regiment was posted in Udaipur , Rajasthan and had stolen pistol and ammunition from his unit.

The jawan was having a matrimonial dispute and had come to take revenge. ''Intu Kumar says he wanted to kill himself after killing his divorced wife'' the police officer said.

Police have registered a case against the deserted jawan.

Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami, when contacted over phone, said they were ascertaining the facts.
