K'taka: Toll rises to 12 in Starch factory blast
Belgaum, May 10: The toll in the May four blast in a Gokak based Starch factory has risen to 12 with six more workers succumbing to burn injuries in KLE Hospital last night and today.
Hospital sources told UNI that while four workers succumbed last night, two died today. The condition of two more, of the 22 still undergoing treatment, are serious.
Meanwhile, the Management of Riddi Siddi Starch factory has announced a compensation of Rs eight lakhs to each of the dead and a permanent job to one person in the family. Even those who are unable to work after the incident are also eligible for the compensation including job. Besides the medical expense would be borne by the Company and will not be deducted in the compensation amount, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Janwad.
The blast took place when a leaking gas cylinder burst and starch stock caught fire.
