Summer ailments claimed 10 lives in Tripura

Agartala, May 10 (UNI) At least 10 people, including three children, died of summer ailments like small pox, malaria and water borne diseases in tribal-dominated interiors of Northern Tripura during the past three days.

Health officials here today said a three-member medical team along with medicinal consignment was sent to remote locations of the Longtari Valley sub-division by helicopter yesterday.

About seven deaths, including that of two children, were reported from different areas of Gandachara following the spread of small pox, health officials said.

Meanwhile, three people, including a kid, died of malaria in Baramura hill range area in the past two days while water-borne diseases were reported in the Gandacherra area.

State Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty said the department has taken all efforts to control the situation and decided to send more medical troops to the remote areas.

Extensive medical camps had been also started in the interior areas.
