Hardwar May 10 (UNI) In an emergency meeting held today the reporters of the print and electronic media of the district, demanded CBI enquiry into the alleged involvement of the state education minister and MLA from Hardwar, Madan Kaushik into Neelam Sharma's death.

Neelam Sharma, resident of Hardwar, died in Delhi under suspicious circumstances on April 24.

The journalists severely condemned the attempts made by the minister to exert pressure on the press to dare publish any news regarding the case. They pointed out that when Neelam Sharma was caught red handed with two BJP leaders in an obscene position in a car in the city by the police a few months ago, the lady and the two youths were set free allegedly under the pressure of Kaushik, who was MLA at that time.

The journalists took strong exception to the fact that the government was also misusing the information department which was calling explanations from them regarding the stories published about the case.

In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, submitted through the district magistrate, this evening, the office bearers of the Press Club warned that they would not tolerate any attempt to suppress the freedom of the press.
