RS pays tributes to sacrifice of 1857 war heroes
New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The Rajya Sabha today paid tributes to the martyrs of the First War of Independence on its 150th anniversary.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat read a statement commemorating the sacrifice of those who had laid down their lives fighting the British East India Company forces in 1857.
From Meerut the war cry spread far and wide attracting thousands of freedom fighters who inspired the struggle of others, which finally culminated in the independence of the country, he said.
The House observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect for those who laid down their lives for the honour of the country.
