Rajya Sabha adjourned over fake encounters, Madurai incident

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Uproarious insistence of the Opposition and the Congress members to take up the issues of Gujarat fake encounters and yesterday's attack on a newspaper in Madurai today led to the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha till 1200 hrs.

As soon as the House met, Members of the the Samajwadi Party, the RJD, the CPI(M), AIDMK and the Congress rose up and urged Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to suspend the Question Hour to discuss the issues which they said were directly related to the working of the democratic system of the country However, Mr Shekhawat refused, saying they could defer the discussion till tomorrow ''as today is the martyr's day and you should give respect to the House''.

But the Members continued with their vociferous demands prompting the Chairman to adjourn the House til 1200.
