Punjab Govt to improve irrigation system: Sukhbir
Jalandhar, May 10 (UNI) Punjab government to further improve canal irrigation system, which would provide nearly 40 per cent extra water to farmers.
This was stated by Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) acting president Sukhbir Singh Badal while talking to media persons at the Jalandhar Central Cooperative Bank function here today.
To save agricultural state from ruin, it was necessary to improve canal irrigation system, which is not working properly at persent, he said adding that he had a meeting with Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in this regard and the CM had promised to bring out within two months an elaborate irrigation policy to boost canal irrigation and to take water to every corner of the state.
On the widespread use of drugs in Punjab, he said party had directed the government to take necessary steps to eradicate the menance of drugs completely from the state, adding that party had also asked the government to root out corruption from the grassroot level.
During the occassion, the Cooperative Bank managing director and former Congress leader Anil Datta joined SAD (Badal) with his supporters and other Congress leaders. In return, Mr Badal promised to provide due respect to the leaders in the party.
