Provide employment to wife of custodial death victim: HC
New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today suggested the Centre to provide employment to the widow of a person who was allegedly killed in police custody at Tihar Jail in the capital, seven years back.
A division bench of Justices T S Thakur and S N Agrawal asked the authorities to compensate the widow by providing her with employment on compasionate grounds.
Hari Om, 24, from Bulandshar had surrendered before a court in Tis Hazari District Courts on September 18, 2000 and sent to Tihar jail on police custody.
He was admitted to the government-owned Din Dayal Upashyay Hospital next day with illness. He died on September 21, 2000.
Hari's wife wrote a letter to the Delhi High Court Chief Justice requesting him to institute a probe to unearth the reasons of her husband's death and payment of adequate compensation.
During the hearing of a case relating to the alleged custodial death of Hari Om on September 21, 2000, the court said, '' You can not bring her husband back, but could compensate by rehabilitating her. She has three minor children.'' After going through the records, the bench observed that prima facie it seemed to be a custodial death and the widow should have been adequately compensated.
