President to give away technology awards tomorrow

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam will give away the technology awards to eminent individuals and industries on the the National Technology Day tomorrow.

There will, however, be no National Technology Award this year, an official release said here today.

The SSI Unit Awards, 2007 will go to Elpro Energy Dimensions Pvt Ltd. and Diaonics Automation (I) Pvt Ltd.

Elpro will be awarded for pioneering a technology to control and monitor energy consumption and wastage in the street lighting system, while Diaonics will be honoured for designing and developing the state-of-the art wireless digital addressable fire detection-cum- prevention system with centralised monitoring station.

Both companies will receive of Rs two lakh and a trophy.

The winners in the other categories are: Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park at Basaveshwar Engineering College Bagalkot, Karnataka; Dr Jatinder Kaur Arora of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh; Dr Maninder Jeet Kaur of Himalayan Research Group, Shimla; Dr O P Katare, Professor and Chairperson of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Punjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Virender Singh Sangwan, Associate Director, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad; and Mr Geeta K Vemuganti, Director, Ophthalmic Pathologic Serviced and Head, stem Cell Laboratory, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

Dr Kalam will also release the new products brought out by Orion Tele-Equipment Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore; Zenotech Laboratories, Ltd., Hyderabad; Omni Active Health Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai; and SMS Coatings (India) Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad.

Dr Jamshed J. Irani, former Managing Director of TISCO, will deliver a lecture on the occasion.
