Naveen orders probe on IPS officer's link with criminals
Bhubaneswar, May 10 (UNI) Acting on a newspaper report about the alleged link of a senior IPS officer with some hardcore criminals from Bihar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered a high level probe to ascertain the truth.
State Home Secretary T K Mishra told newsmen that the Chief Minister had directed the state Director General of Police (DGP) to probe into the allegations and submit a report within a week.
Mr Mishra said proper action would be taken if the IPS officer was found guilty.
It was alleged in the newspaper report that a senior IPS officer in the rank of the Inspector General of Police has taken initiative to help release of some hardcore criminals from the jail. These criminals had shot dead two people and decamped with Rs 23 lakh from the LIC office of Bhadrak in February last.
They were nabbed from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand by the Orissa police and later lodged in Bhadrak jail after their bail petitions were rejected by the court.
The Orissa police had also seized some cash and arms from their possession.
