Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) A 300 metre 'Skywalk', that will take commuters, coming out of the crowded Bandra station, straight to Hill road, is on the anvil to ease traffic congestion on the busy S V road.

Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to construct the skywalk and work on the Rs 30 crore project is expected to be completed in a year's time.

The Skywalk will come up on the Western side of Bandra station.

Apart from this, MMRDA also plans to build an elevated deck to provide parking space along with streamlined movement of auto rickshaws on the eastern side of the railway station.

The project will be executed jointly by the MMRDA and the Western Railway (WR) and will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, WR will extend its foot over bridge (FOB) in the southern end of the station, all the way till the nearby bus stand. MMRDA will construct the elevated deck, along with a ramp, in the second phase.

''The east side of Bandra station is packed with auto rickshaws and buses, which leaves very little space for pedestrians to walk. To streamline this and decongest the roads near the station, we plan to build a raised deck for auto rickshaws to ply under it. While MMRDA had already chalked out the project design, bids for constructing the skywalk and the auto rickshaw deck will be invited only after the rainy season is over,'' MMRDA sources said.

WR will be extending the southern end of the FOB and MMRDA will invite bids after the monsoons.
