Imphal, May 10 (UNI) Several government schools in Manipur have just one to three students, Manipur People's Party (MPP) MLA O Joy today said in the Assembly.

Taking part in the general discussion on budget for the Education department, Mr Joy said it was in a shambles as the student and the teacher ratio was not maintained.

He further said there were large numbers of schools which had large number of students but just one teacher.

The problem persisted particularly in the rural areas, where there were more students.

He said the authorities in most of the schools had provided wrong data of students so that more funds could be collected for mid-day meal scheme or any other programme.

He appealed to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to look into the matter.

The House also discussed demands for grants for information and publicity of Rs 2.31 crore, Education department of Rs 313 crore, agriculture of Rs 40 crore, election of Rs 2.83 crore and state academy of training of Rs 85 lakh.
