Govt concentrating on modernisation of police

Patna, May 10 (UNI) The Bihar government would modernise police machinary to improve the law and order situation in the state.

Official sources here said several steps had been taken for modernising police force, which had been provided with sophisticated weapons, adding other infrastructure were being upgraded to make it more effective.

The sources said explosive dectectors had been bought at Rs 13, 12,000, while about Rs 15,36,000 had been spent to train 18 canine squad, which were helpful in tracing the criminals and extremists.

An additional 45 swans would be bought at an expenditure of Rs 56, 70,000 to strengthen the existing dog squad of the state.

The government had also concentrated on developing satellite -based information system, and for this over Rs 1,91,63,000 had been earmarked. This apart, Rs 33,41,00,000 had been sanctioned for the Building Construction department for seting up houses for police line and police stations.

In a bid to increase mobility of police force, 120 new vehicles would be purchased for which Rs 9 crore 40 lakh had been sanctioned.

Special emphasis had been given in the extremist-dominated areas and the government had planned to spend Rs seven crore on construction of watch tower, forewalls around the police stations and security gate to counter extremist attacks.

Police personnel were also being imparted special training to counter the extremist attack and tackle any eventuality.
