Farmers to get training in modern agro-technology
Barasat, May 10 (UNI) West Bengal Agriculture Minister Naren Dey today said that more than 25 per cent of the peasants in our state lacked knowledge of modern agro-technology and its impact.
''They need to be properly trained in the new technology for them to utilise it for better farmland produce,'' he added.
Inaugurating a new office building for the Agricultural Technology Management Agency, working under the National Agricultural Technology project of the Centre here at Barasat, North 24 Parganas, Mr Dey said that six West Bengal districts - North 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Bankura, Murshidabad and Malda, were adopted under the project to guide the farmers on the basis of the modern technology get maximum benefit from cultivation.
Mr Dey said that the state had 54 lakh hectres of cultivable land, of which 3 lakh hecters were unfertile. These land could be utilised by applying agro-technology.
